The CVCS Committee is delighted to report that good progress has been made towards our target of £200,000 for a new community store and post office. Applications to two grant-giving bodies have been successful and we can confirm that a total of £167,000 has now been received (from grants, donations and the share membership scheme) towards our fundraising target.
Further grant applications are in the pipeline and new funding sources are in the process of being identified and applied for. The committee is confident that the funding gap can and will be filled. However, the timing of some of the grant applications (which are all slightly different and take a few months to work through the system) may affect the start date of the new store build. Breaking ground cannot commence until there is certainty that the necessary funds are confirmed and in place. The committee is mindful of its duty to spend the money raised with responsible caution. It is therefore likely that the start of the 4-month build will be delayed by a month or possibly more. In the meantime, tenders for the main contractor are being carefully considered and worked through. No appointment has yet been made.
DATE FOR YOUR DIARY – THURSDAY 1 NOVEMBER AT 7:30PM
While we continue to work on fundraising plans and construction details, the CVCS committee is now starting to look at the next stages of the project and how the store will be fitted out, stocked and operated.
