We were delighted by the turnout at the Community Store Open Morning in Preston Candover Village Hall on Saturday 26th January. Ninety adults plus children came along to find out how construction of the new store is progressing and to provide their views about what products should be stocked and what services could be provided.
Committee members were on hand to listen to your views and to explain how the store aims to address the needs of the local community. A popularity poll for common shopping list products gave valuable feedback to the store Committee as to which products are likely to prove popular.
Jane Laws had a constant stream of people talking to her about volunteering, which is great news – the more people who volunteer, the more chance there is of the store flourishing and the effort required to keep the store running will be spread more evenly.
In true community spirit, home-made cakes and tray bakes were snapped up eagerly by the visitors, and many thanks to Moonroast who rallied to the cause who provided visitors with an excellent Guatemalan blend of coffee.
Unfortunately the plan to provide guided tours of the part-complete store had to be shelved, due to the concrete floor being poured as the morning progressed, but looking through the fencing one could get a good view of the space available, which in just a few weeks will be filled with everyday essentials, special treats and local produce.
If you didn’t manage to make it to the open morning, it’s not too late to let the Committee know you’re views and it’s never too late to volunteer! And don’t forget that we’re recruiting for a Store Manager and Assistant Manager, with applications open until Monday 18th February.
Future events will be announced soon in the run-up to our planned launch in May, so please visit the website regularly to keep up-to-date. In the meantime if you have any questions, comments or ideas, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of the Committee.
